What the room does
One host controls play, pause and seeking. Other participants follow that position and can talk in text chat. A shared queue keeps individual video links in order. The host can allow guests to add videos or move to the next one.
ViewTalk adds coordination and conversation around a video. It does not own, curate or license the videos that participants choose.
Built for a short session
No account is needed. Choose a nickname and avatar color when entering a new room; that profile is kept separately for each room in the browser tab. Open the arrow next to the viewer count to see who is connected.
There is no public room directory, permanent discussion board, voice call or camera chat. Room links are invitations: anyone with the link, and the password when enabled, can join. Use them with people you trust.
Where the work happens
Each browser plays its own official YouTube embed. Cloudflare Workers and a per-room Durable Object relay playback state and text messages. This is a serverless service, not a service with no server-side processing.
The room retains up to 30 recent messages. After the last connection leaves, a 30-second reconnect grace period is scheduled before room data is deleted. Network disconnect detection and cleanup can take longer.
